Robert D. Heins, 90, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Melbourne, Florida. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Eva, his son Fletcher and his daughter Meredith. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Rhonda, his daughters Tracy and Leslie; his son-in-law Russell Jenkins and his beloved grandchildren Alex and Aiden Jenkins.
Bob was born in Oceanside, New York. As a teenager, his family moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where Bob attended Leon High school, graduating in 1953. After serving in the Navy for two years, he returned to Tallahassee to complete his master’s degree at Florida State University in Engineering Science. He had a long and successful career in engineering and management, retiring from Harris Semiconductor.
A resident of Melbourne Beach since 1969, Bob was an avid fisherman, a water fowl hunter, long time member of Ducks Unlimited, and devoted FSU fan. He enjoyed spending time in his garage, working on numerous woodworking projects; he loved pulling the net for shrimp, putting out crab traps and watching sunsets on the Gulf with his family in North Florida.
Final arrangements will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Tigers Unlimited Foundation for Meredith Jenkins Endowed Fund for Excellence for WINGS.
